Montecristo brand cigars were first made at the Upmann factory in 1935. The brand is named after the famous novel by Dumas "The Count of Montecristo", its hallmark is crossed swords. They say that many spinners loved it when special readers, according to tradition, brightened up their work by reading aloud this particular book. Initially, only five vitols were produced under this brand, indicated by numbers instead of names: Montecristo No.1, No.2, No.3, No.4 and No.5. Particularly prominent are Montecristo No.2, the world's best figurado (figurado) in the Torpedo shape, and Montecristo No.4 - Mareva, the most popular size of Havana cigars, it is also the world's best-selling Cuban cigar. Other formats appeared in the seventies, including "Montecristo A" or, as Cuban tobacco growers call it, "Monte A", a favorite cigar of fans of large formats. The exquisite taste of "Montecristo" captivated smokers and allows the brand to rule the ball of the most popular "Havanas" royally for two decades.
